Steve Johnston 701 modifications...Thanks Steve for the photos.... looks great and keep us updated! Here is a photo of the landing and taxi lights. They are mounted in the outboard tip of
the left outboard slat. The light mounting angle is adjustable to accommodate both
taxi and landing operations. The openings in the slat will be covered with lexan on the
inside. The amount of heat generated is minimal. The bulbs are a Halogen type Philips 35
Watt 12volt #35MRC16/IRC/SP8 Beam spread 8 degrees. I also used a small 12
volt regulator to regulate the light voltage to a constant 12 volts. The regulator
is a LM 1085 3 Amp Low Dropout Positive Regulator.
Here is a photo of the wing tip storage area. The door allows access to the strobe power supply and is large enough to use the tip bay for storage. The fold up lawn chair in the photo fits into the large lightning hole and the full size fishing rod fits along side in the smaller lightning hole. Other lightweight items like a camping pillow or extra jacket would easily fit in the tip bay. Zenith thought this modification was fine
Here is a photo of the early stages of developing a belly cargo pod.
I had my large tundra tires with me when I was at Mexico, MO. I took this photo of the
Zenith demonstrator 701 and my 21X12X8 tire and wheel.
