Alternate Engines for the 701

Here are four shots of my corvair 701 install so far,
the rear upper mount tubes won't be finalized until
the 40a alternator mounting is complete. The exhaust
headers will join at the lower center rear into a 2
into 1 collector then forward to the muffler. The fuel
induction is adapted from a honda car TBI unit which
uses an upper and lower injector. Ignition tentativly
will be a hybrid DIS. The stock oil filter and fuel
pump setup is eliminated. This will be a hand prop
installation, in order to respect the recommended
weight limitations.
With the induction on top and exhaust tucked up
underneath I hope to maximize cowl streamlining, not
that it would matter much!!

The attached 5 pictures are of a Suzuki 1.3L EFI engine from a 1998 Geo Metro.  It differs some from later models, as the coils are in a different position and have to be moved, in this case, to the side.  The ignition is stock using the ECM and rewired stock harness.
To utilize the stock Zenith cowl, it was necessary to cut down the saddlebag oil tank as well as the oil pick up tube.  The radiator, by Tech Welding, required two triangular holes to be cut just below the opening for the cool air intake.  They are about 2"x2"x2" and will be either bubbled out a little, or screened.  The corners of the radiator could also have been cut off.
The ECM and header tank are shown on the back side of the firewall.  A Walbro high pressure pump is mounted inside the header tank to minimize fuel vapor problems.  Hopefully, I will know if it works in a couple of weeks.

This picture shows the lower holes cut in the standard Zenith Rotax cowl for the lower radiator corners.

Photos show first round of motor mount mock-up using 3/4" tubes that
were lying around the shop.  This style mount will not be used as the
top tubes interfere with the rear case of the engine.  A VW type mount
will be built in the next few months to bring the engine closer to the
firewall and reduce the forward CG.  Note the artistic wood-burning
skills as per what not to do in Tony B's book - Firewall Forward.

Attached are three photos of my engine installation so far. The engine is a 4
cylinder 1.3L from a 2001 Geo Metro. I have completed all the modifications
recommended by Raven for the installation of their redrive unit. I am using an
aftermarket ignition/injector controller made by SDS (www.sdsefi.com) rather
than the stock engine wiring and computer. The first photo shows the right side
with the Raven redrive and, mounted on the firewall, my SDS coil unit. The
second photo shows the Raven supplied oil pan modified to fit in the Zenith
cowl. The third photo is a view of the underside of the engine showing my high
pressure pumps and filters that feed the fuel injection rail.
