Here is a picture of an 'optional' stiffener used in the 701 wing. Some builders install them on top and bottom skins between the ribs to make the skin a bit more rigid and help eliminate some of the oil canning. Although they do not show up in the plans, they are used in the planes built by Sky Shop. They consist of using the standard 'L' with crimps to follow the contour of the wing surface. I pointed them out to Chris Heintz at an air show and his only comment was that they were 'stiffeners' ! |
